EuropeanElections2024/S&D and EPP each get 11 mandates in Romania, Renew – 2 and Greens

AGERPRES special correspondent Florin Stefan reports: The groups of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats and that of the European People’s Party will each obtain 11 mandates in Romania in the future community legislature, Renew will obtain two seats, and the Greens only one, informs the last projection of the European Parliament about the election results.

Practically, according to the last centralization carried out by the European Parliament at 14:30 local time (15:30 Romanian time), which takes into account the last report of the preliminary results by the Central Electoral Bureau in Romania, the PSD-PNL Alliance practically secures two thirds of the total number of seats allocated to Romania in the future legislative community.

According to the projection, S&D will have 11 MEPs in Romania, all of whom come from PSD. The European People’s Party will in turn have 11 MEPs in Romania, of which eight from the PNL, one from the Popular Movement Party (one of the three forces in the United Right Alliance) and two from the Hungarian Democratic Union in Romania.

The Renew Europe group will have two MEPs, who come from the Save Romania Union, and the Greens/European Free Alliance group will also have a seat, after the independent candidate Nicolae Stefanuta managed to enter the EP.

Two other parties, AUR and SOS Romania, which will obtain five and two mandates, respectively, enter the „Others” category, as they are not yet affiliated to any political groups.

The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group also obtained a mandate in Romania, as Cristian Terhes, who opened the AUR list, is an affiliated member of this group.

As to the seats obtained by the groups at the general level of the EU, the EPP is credited by the latest EU projection with 186 seats, S&D with 134 seats, and Renew with 79 seats. The ECR would get 73 seats, the Identity and Democracy group 58 seats, and the Greens/ALE – 53 seats. The left would hold 36 seats, and the unaffiliated 44, while the candidates who appear in the „Other” category are 55.
